PRINTS IN CLAY EVENING CONCERT — STILL, WE RISE!
A SPIRITUALS CELEBRATION FEATURING TWO ORIGINAL WORKS
While spirituals will be the primary musical focus of tonight’s concert, we will celebrate
varying styles of the classical, gospel, and jazz genres. There will be pieces by Ravel and
Nathan Nelson, will lend their blessed voices in tonight’s presentation by performing a
few of their signature pieces as well as the new compositions.
In celebration of the Slave Dwelling Project Prints In Clay we present, along with several
Gaillard Center, this music will serve to tell the untold stories of our ancestors, adults
and children, who lived through the horrible conditions of slavery. It will be followed by
land and their heroic perseverance through these troubling times.
J’NAI BRIDGES
Opera
News) is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after talents of her generation. In
the current season, Ms. Bridges makes both her role and house debuts as Preziosilla
in La forza del destino with Opernhaus Zürich under the baton of Fabio Luisi. In a return
to San Francisco Opera, she creates the role of Josefa Segovia in the world premiere
of John Adams’ Girls of the Golden West, directed by Peter Sellars. On the concert stage,
Ms. Bridges performs as soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustavo
Dudamel in works by Mozart at Walt Disney Hall; with the Philadelphia Orchestra in a
holiday concert; and in Bernstein centennial celebrations with both the BBC Symphony
Orchestra and the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra.
