Spotlight: The Sawmill Place Kitchen +
Market Brings the Farm to Your Table
NNestled in a charming cabin
just a mile from the Town Square,
The Sawmill Place Kitchen + Market
takes farm-to-table and locally-sourced
to a whole new level!
The restaurant menu is harvest-
driven and filled with heirloom recipes
from co-owner Amy Kight’s family.
“As Amy was growing up, if they didn’t
grow it or catch it, they didn’t eat it!”
co-owner Shawn Kight explains. “So,
we’d rather source five items from 10
local growers instead of making even
one call to a food service truck.”

Open for breakfast and lunch, you can
start your day with a hearty, cooked-
to-order meal using seasonal, locally-
sourced goods. The farm fresh eggs and
applewood smoked bacon are brought
in daily, and the tart berries on your
buttermilk pancakes probably came
from around the corner at Tim Dyer’s
Blueberry Patch.
At lunch time (or dinner as we say
in the South), the experienced Sawmill
staff serves up an authentic meat-andthree
using locally sourced meats and
fresh veggies harvested on area farms
— try the pork chops, meatloaf, slowcooked
roast beef or chicken ’n dumplings
paired with delicious sides like
okra & tomatoes, corn on the cob, red
skin potatoes, crowder peas and, of
course, fried green tomatoes.
Shop the Market
With so many fresh goods grown right
here, it only made sense for Shawn and
Amy to carry the farm-to-table concept
over to a market. Opened in 2017 and
located next door to the restaurant,

“Georgia Grown” products and artisanal
goods from Union County and the
entire tri-state area. With shelves full of
syrups, jams and honey, it’s the perfect
place for any committed “locavore.”
