HAZARDOUS
MATERIALS
Sometimes emergencies are caused by the release of hazardous
materials because of an explosion or fire. Other times, trucks or
trains that carry hazardous materials have accidents.
It’s important that you know what to do
in case of a chemical emergency.
In case of a shelter-in-place order:
1. Go inside immediately. Bring pets inside
with you.
2. Lock windows and doors tightly.
3. Shut off furnaces, air conditioners and fans.
4. Go into a room in the top floor with few or no windows.
Bring your emergency kit with you.
5. Use plastic sheeting and tape to seal doors, windows
and vents. Place damp towels under door cracks to seal them.
6. Listen to the radio for instructions.
7. When the emergency ends, open doors and windows
to air out your home.
