The Pinehurst Train Station
All Aboard! Going through Pinehurst, Southern
Pines, and Aberdeen, trains come through daily.
Long ago, trains transported the resources
of our great Longleaf pines from the timber to
the turpentine. Established in 1892, by John
Blue, the Aberdeen and Rockfish rail line still
operates today! As the land became stripped
of the pines, other resources grew plentiful. In
addition to transporting the timber, the rail service
transported cotton, tobacco, sweet potatoes,
soy beans and so much more. Candor shipped
out peaches, Cameron dewberries, and Jackson
Springs their famous healing mineral waters.
As local train stations welcomed all, many who
came, chose to never leave. ☐
