Pine Needle Baskets
Living amongst a Longleaf pine reserve offers
many benefits. From the earliest days of the
founding of Moore County, the Longleaf pines
have been our greatest natural resource. Used
for the shipping industry early on, the turpentine
and lumber of the pines were shipped out via
the rail service. As the pines remain a growing
resource of our economy, many uses have
emanated. Local artists utilize the pine needles
to create pine needle baskets and sell them at
local craft shops and shows. Check out these
baskets in the Tufts Archives in Pinehurst, a local
treasure recording our local heritage. ☐ Pine Needle baskets, Tufts Archives.

America!
