be able to operate well with sales, marketing,
finance, operations, HR, etc. while also creating
an enterprise from scratch. It will require
creativity, persistence and continuous learning
and adjustment to your plan.
3. Listen to your Client.
Truly listen and empathize with your clients.
Everyone is interested in getting their own
personal message across that no one pauses for a
moment to listen. Listen 80% of the time, clarify
10% of the time and respond with intention the
remaining 10% of the time.
4. Learn with a Team.
Leaders often like to learn by themselves.
They read a book or attend a conference. A good
leader learns with the help of a coach or mentor.
Someone who can come alongside the leader
and provide a different perspective.
5. Play the Long Game.
It is easy to get caught up in day-to-day
challenges of running a business. You MUST
carve out time to review what are you doing
for the long-term health of the business.
This includes everything from training,
marketing, employee development, community
involvement and capital.
6. Focus on the reward.
When you are an entrepreneur, it is a journey.
A big experiment where failure is not an option,
because ultimately it is worth learning and the
growth that we will get from it. Focus on the
reward, not the fear.
Moore County is blessed with many different
types of entrepreneurs. Remember to reach
out to these individuals to network and learn
from the more experienced individuals. It may
save you in the long run. Just remember, it is
not about the idea, it’s about making the idea
happen. ☐ Reference: forbes.com

Put an End to Residential
Electrical Fires with Ting.
Carolina Power & Generators and Whisker
Labs announced a partnership today to bring
Ting – the next generation fire safety to residents
in Carthage, NC, and the surrounding areas.
Ting’s groundbreaking smart technology
includes a simple plug-in sensor that fits in the
palm of your hand, and includes a smart phone
app and intelligent monitoring service that
watches over your home and things connected to
it – Keeping you in the know. Ting is essentially a
‘fitness tracker’ for homes, monitoring electrical
patterns to detect hazards before they become
fires.
Increasingly new technologies are packed
into our homes, asking more and more of
our electrical system. Yet most of us give little
thought to electricity and its silent but serious
risks. Ting brings safety and peace of mind to
every home and family. It’s literally a life saver,
not to mention a money saver as well. With a
$1,000 credit towards hazard remediation and a
lifetime warranty included, Ting more than pays
for itself!
“Electrical fires are extremely personal to me.
I lost my entire home to an electrical fire less
than one year ago,” said Gary Bullard, President
of Carolina Power and Generators, “I never want
to see any of our customers experience what my
family experienced. Ting is designed to prevent
the kind of catastrophe that hit my home. I truly
hope that Ting will make this a reality in our
customers’ homes.”
Bob Marshall, CEO at Whisker Labs, said:
“My family has seen first-hand the damage and
destruction that electrical fires cause, so we are
excited to bring Ting to home to protect families
from fire. We’re thrilled to be partnering with
Carolina Power & Generators, whose passion for
providing comfort and safety to their customers
is in perfect alignment with our mission.”

This means that you will need to listen to
those who only have your best interest in mind.
A good mentor can provide encouragement
when needed or chiding if required and
guidance on any number of subjects. While
someone more senior can offer good advice,
they are not the only voice you should seek. For
instance, peers and others at the same stage of
business may have a closer perspective on how
things are operating or what new technologies
or methodologies are worth your time.
Following are a few tips as you investigate
the possibility of opening a business:
1. Research AND understand your market.
Take the time to fully do market research
and listen closely to your ideal client’s needs.
Understand them now. Take this intel and craft
it into an irresistible solution for them to be able
to get easier yeses in your business.
2. Put in the hard work.
Starting a business is exponentially harder
