MY BODY IS FOR YOU
Joey Knox
Aug. 12-Sept. 15
Reception: Thursday, Aug. 22, Noon-2 p.m.
Artist Talk: 12:30 p.m.
Exploring both the overt and hidden layers of the American
masculine identity, the exhibition examines the queer
experience of identity creation and self-image through
digital media. The tension of anonymity in the search for
intimacy. Confining and freeing. Declarative and fragile.
Powerful and soft. Victim and perpetrator. Traditions and
reverential imagery give way to a new exploration of self.
The gallery exhibition will continue into the atrium.
FINDING FAITH
Jerimiah Smith
Sept. 21-Oct. 25
Opening Reception: Thursday, Sept. 19, Noon-2 p.m.
Artist Talk: 12:30 p.m.
Additional Reception: Saturday, Sept. 21, 3-6 p.m.
A photographic journey through central Alabama’s
smallest towns. Over the course of two years, the artist
photographed and interviewed countless men and women
living above and below the poverty line. He asks each
person the same question: “What does faith mean to you?”
This question is answered in the form of handwritten letters.
Displayed side by side, the letters and the photographs tell a
story that aims to open the eyes and the minds of even the
faithless. The gallery exhibition will continue into the atrium.
