Mariachi Herencia de México, an ensemble of students from Chicago’s immigrant barrios, is mariachi
music’s most exciting newcomer. The group scored a surprise hit with their debut album of traditional
Mexican music, Nuestra Herencia (Our Heritage), which hit #2 on the iTunes Latin chart, defying a music
industry trend and pointing to a revival in recorded mariachi music. The album scored a 2017 Latin
Grammy nomination in the Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album category demonstrating that this group
of students have the talent, training and bravado to hold their own with the best in the world.

Inspired by the words and action of
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., We Shall
Overcome showcases repertoire from
across the African American music
traditions that electrified generations
of civil rights activists and defenders
with interwoven spoken word from
Dr. King’s recorded speeches.
This production ties together a living
lineage of music and culture that
includes traditional gospel, modern
gospel, classical, jazz, Broadway
and spirituals. From Aretha Franklin
to Wynton Marsalis; Duke Ellington
to Stevie Wonder; Nina Simone to Donny
Hathaway; and traditional spirituals and
music from The Wiz, Damien Sneed’s
unique understanding of each genre
allows him to fluidly cover so much
musical ground in a single performance.
“WE SHALL OVERCOME”
“Damien is an extraordinarily talented, intelligent and wellrounded
musician as well as a human being of depth and passion.”
