Lincoln comes Local
by Rebekah King
Truly we best remember history through
the stories told! And better yet, to open a diary
capturing the essence, the very heart and soul
of a personality gone before, we remember
the lessons even more. Such is the historical
legacy Paul R. Dunn presents in The Secret
War Diaries of Abraham Lincoln Including his
Recurring Dreams. Reinforcing each diary entry
with historical facts gained through intensive
research, Dunn beautifully blends the story of
Lincoln en-wrapped in the Presidency, the Civil
War and the melancholy surrounding daily life.
Describing his 4 book series as “faction,” Dunn
explains, “It’s part fact, part fiction, but it’s 90% facts.”
Recounting the most intimate moments of
our great President alongside one of our most
difficult eras, the first entry begins, Springfield
Illinois - Friday, November 9, 1860. Yesterday

Music Roots Run Deep
by L. Steve Crain
Born into a rural-South, working-class
family, I was seven before Dad bought a TV
and our family began hearing music other than
Country and Gospel.
Mama sang songs to me, such as Bye, baby
Bunting, Daddy’s gone a-hunting, to get a little
rabbit skin to wrap his baby Bunting in. At
church, Mama sang alto and intuitively heard
alto parts, though she, one of nine children,
never had music lessons.
Dad, a WWII U.S. combat veteran who fought
in Germany, played guitar and mandolin. He
and Uncle Fred worked at Southern Bleachery
(a now-defunct textile plant in Taylors, SC)
and played string music under Ma’s chinaberry
tree on Sunday afternoons. Ma, my tall, thin
grandmother, played guitar, though not as well
as Fred, who played guitar, mandolin, fiddle,
pedal steel, bass, and I don’t know what all.
Year Round Enjoyment

enjoyment all year long. Imagine an element
that could be added to your landscape that
brings beauty every month. An element that is
constant yet evolving with the changing seasons.

A Realtor’s Perspective on the Difference a Good
Real Estate Attorney Can Make
by William G. Sahadi
In the past nineteen years, I’ve been involved
in more than 1,100 real estate transactions. That
is 1,100 first-hand opportunities to view the value
that a good real estate attorney brings to the
table. Most of these transactions have involved
the sale of residential homes. In no less than 40
percent of them, emotions, misunderstandings,
egos, timing and legal issues have reared their
ugly head.
