• Spray Paint, holiday colors of red and green
• Hershey kisses
INSTRUCTIONS
Go outside and pick up some pinecones. Find
the largest, prettiest cones you can! Your parents
may just pass out thinking that you are actually
doing chores without their asking. Ha!
Spray the cones with spray paint; it will take
several coats to cover all of the little ins and outs.
Let the cones dry.
Now decorate your cones by sticking the Kisses
into the cone scales. Use these beauties on your
mantle or as holiday table delights. ☐
Color the picture,
include your contact information,
and mail it for a chance to WIN!

Kisses and Cones
Whenever possible, we like to use the natural
resources of our area. In our hometown, there
are pinecones everywhere! With towns named
Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Whispering Pines,
Pinebluff, we live surrounded in pines! Since pine
cones are shaped like small Christmas trees, then
let's get some spruced up for the holiday season.
My dear friend Jane Granato taught me how to
make these simple treats during one of our visits.
THE SHAW HOUSE
Long before the towns of Southern Pines and
Pinehurst, the Shaw House was built where Pee
Dee Road and Morganton Road cross. Traveled by
the Indians hunting buffalo, deer and turkeys, the
beloved grounds lay sheltered under the towering
pines of the Pee Dee Road. Going the other direction,
Morganton Road offered a trade route to Fayetteville
and the Cape Fear River.
Scottish settler Charles C. Shaw built the little
house around 1820. Additions to the house came as
the family grew to include 12 children!
In 1946, the Moore County Historical Association
purchased the house to preserve its future.
