GETTING TO KNOW ANTHONY CARUBBA
CHAMPION CAR WASH & DETAIL SHOP
Favorite car? I am a Porsche 911 fan.
Favorite car color? Sapphire blue.
Best part of your job? Being a car lover, it is
the cars that I get to see and touch on a daily
basis. More than that, it is the people with whom
I meet and develop relationships.
The hardest part? Trying to make everyone
happy as everyone has different expectations,
wants and desires. Being able to meet the needs
is a significant challenge.
Your first car? My first car was a 1977 Ford
Granada in silver.
Most important car tip? Most important car
tip is that regular maintenance pays long–term
dividends, extends the life of the vehicle and
keeps it working and looking newer longer. Be
diligent in maintaining your vehicle.
What do you wish you would have known
in starting off that you know now? Whether
in dealing with customers or deciding the path
of a business or a career, almost all of the time
your gut isn’t going steer you wrong. Your brain is
going to play games and will tell you otherwise.
You are going to question, and you will make
decisions based on what your brain is telling
you. Go with what your gut tells you. Trust your gut!
Advice for others following their dream? Do
your homework; get educated. Once you have
that education, then don’t be afraid to take the
risks to make it happen.
The Carubba Family, Champion Car Wash.
Who inspired your path? My family! Always
my parents and grandparents—in watching
what they did. My father barely got out of high
school and didn’t go to college, yet he grew the
family business from one location to many,
many locations. This remains my inspiration.
Favorite golf course? Any course in Pinehurst.
How would you define life? Growing up in a
family with strong, old–school Italian values, life
is all about your family.
Favorite road trip? The drive through western
North Carolina, out towards the Blue Ridge
Parkway is always a favorite.
Favorite Porsche? The 911’s are made in what
they call a series that spans a certain number of
years. My favorite in the 911 is the 964 series.
If you had a free day what would you do?
Spending time with my family is all I want. We
like to take our son Sam to the Pik–n–Pig to
watch the airplanes. Sometimes we will ride over
to the stables in Pinehurst to watch the horses.
Favorite restaurant? We love Ironwood Café.
For a taste of home, we like Fratellos or Vito’s.
Other favorites around town? The Pinehurst
Resort's spa, golf and the hotel.
Moore County is? Moore County is such a
personable and friendly place, full of incredible
people from incredible walks of life.
Advice for young people? No matter what
advantages you may have or may not have,
you must understand the value of hard work. I
meet many young people as employees and as
customers, and I fear the value of hard work is
being lost on this younger generation. Whether
you come from rural North Carolina or are a
trust fund baby, everybody needs to work hard. ☐

emphasizes, “Keep music in your life! Don’t
stop! Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do
it! Get better than them and make it happen!”
From 45 years of listening to naysayers—
Tricia and I get it! We finally get it! In hearing
her story, my own bears witness. In seeing
her overcome the “No’s,” we both choose,
“YES!” As did the women business owners all
over town from Diane at Honeycutt Jewelers
to Alisa at BEARS Flooring, Janell at C-Cups,
Laura at Forever Young Day Spa, Leah at Happy
Hour Training Studio, Lois Jean at Mid State
Furniture, Kelly at NextHome in the Pines,
Vicki at Village Design, Elease at Orthotics
and Prosthetics, Jen at Sandhills Gymnastics,
Melinda and Jessica at Southern Tropics and
Carol at Southmoore Heating and Cooling, to
the other Carol at Sandhills Propane, owner of
Lovin Bluegrass whose videos have a national
following. Bringing a smile, Dr. Sams, owner of
Sandhills Weekend Dental, is dedicated to help
you Eat, Kiss & Smile Better! I mean really what
more could anyone want? To all of the women
who choose to conquer their dreams; today is
the day.
As my life work sustains the lives of my sons,
the men of tomorrow, the future is brighter than
ever! Not to forget Ed Hill’s three sons following
in their father’s footsteps at Ed Hill Wealth
Management, also a Best of the Pines winner.
Cheers to all!
As to my favorite Giving Back? My favorite
local business? Favorite Personality? Well, as I
always tell my boys, “You ALL are my favorites!”
How on earth could anyone ever choose a
favorite amongst so many heroes? However my
favorite question to ask clients is to finish this
sentence. “Life is....?” Fred Para, Jim Murray’s
sidekick in adventure, who speaks 5 languages
and considers the world his backyard finished
it this way, “Life is what you make of it!” And
he’s right! We get to choose! From obeying the
demands of others, to
hearing the stories of
f
life being lived—I have
finally figured it out.
I love how Anthony
y
Carruba of Champion
Car Wash answered,
“Life is all about your
family!” Yes! Just as the
little pines create the
forests, family makes
life a most beautiful
gift.
Thus the little pine
sapling maturing into
the longleaf, so too I
grow at 45. In finding
the courage to choose
authentic living, I
reach towards the
Carolina blue skies and
grow in the life-giving
sunshine covering our
sandy trails welcoming
golf, horses and lots of
furry friends who bring
a smile! As does Mr. Bruce Warner of a Dog’s Best
Friend whose doggie day care offers “the BEST
time a dog ever had in Moore County!”
Yes, the Gazette has saved my life! From my
business clients, to the Community Kids, to the
locals along the way, I am privileged to meet
every single one. Everyone has a story, and if
you take the time to listen, then your life will be
the better. No matter our stage of growth, from
seedling to sapling to strong, no matter our
color, our gender, our religion, we can choose
light, love and life!
Teaming up with Joey, Martha and Dan of
Mechanics Hill Marketing in Robbins, I am
writing the next chapter by combining the local
marketplace with the online marketplace via
website and social media connections. Thus the
banner for the next 40 years reads, “Be the Light
You Want to See.” Whenever we share our light,
no matter how small or grand the flicker, we
inspire life! As you consider your goals for 2020
vision, be sure to let your light shine! ☐
