Cycling TO CONVERGE
Enthusiasts
IN TITUSVILLE
The following day,
Titusville Playhouse again
will be the host location
for the stakeholders from
the five-county region
that encompasses the
St. Johns River to Sea
Loop. Each year, the
Loop Alliance (www.
river2sealoop.org)
convenes a summit to
discuss both progress and
challenges, and leaves with
inspiration to complete
and sustain the 260-mile
developing multi-use trail
system. Previous events
have been held in Volusia
County, but when the
opportunity presented
itself, a team from the
Titusville Chamber, City
of Titusville, and Space
Coast Transportation
Planning Organization
submitted a bid to host
the event. The full day of
activities will include an
opportunity for attendees
to enjoy a walk or ride
on the trail during the
scheduled lunch break.
A highlight of both of
the above events is the
keynote speaker, Mr. Dan
Burden. The director of
innovation and inspiration
at Blue Zones (www.
bluezones.com) also is
cofounder and former
executive director of the
Walkable and Livable
Communities Institute
(WALC). He has spent
more than 40 years helping
to get the world “back
on its feet” and has been
recognized with lifetime
achievement awards, and
was designated by TIME
All trails lead to Titusville in March…
A trifecta of cycling activities is shaping up to take place
in historic downtown Titusville the week of March 16,
bringing outdoor enthusiasts from all over the state and
from across the country.
Bike Florida (www.bikeflorida.org) whose mission is
to help Florida communities improve their economic
health, bicycle infrastructure, and safety through bicycle
tourism, has been tasked by VisitFlorida to hold the first
statewide cycling tourism summit. Fortunately, they
chose Titusville as their first location of this annual
event. Bike Florida has hosted a few events already in
Titusville, and has been an active partner in helping
develop our bicycle infrastructure.
The March 18 conference will be based at the Titusville
Playhouse.
magazine as “one of the
six most important civic
innovators in the world.”
Although he is headlining
both events, his subject
matter and presentation
will be tailored to each
audience, so participants
who attend both events
will benefit doubly from
his extensive experience.
The Summit activities will
continue on March 19
with a half-day planning
workshop, led by the
Office of Greenways and
Trails (www.floridadep.
gov/parks/ogt). The
purpose of this session is to
develop measurable action
steps and build consensus
on the most important
challenges ahead for the
loop trail.
Finally, on March 21,
the Titusville Chamber
will host “Gear Up,
Ride It Down 2,” the
annual community trail
ride. With distances
for all fitness levels and
ages, this ride is open to
everyone and is intended
to build awareness of the
trails in the community
and encourage usage to
promote the benefits of
alternative methods of
transportation, including a
healthier, more connected
community.
All three events are
open to the public, and
there are sponsorship
opportunities available.
