LAW, PUBLIC SAFETY AND SECURITY PROGRAM CAREERS
Supervision and Management–Public
Safety/Public Service
The supervision and management program with
a concentration in public safety/public service
uses a 2+2 model that requires applicants to have
completed an associate’s degree or equivalent for
entry. In this field positions include health service
managers, law enforcement officers, or emergency
management officers.
Correctional Officer
Correctional officers manage individuals who
have been arrested and awaiting trial or convicted
criminals sentenced to serve time. Training can be
completed in as little as six months and may be
sponsored by a local law enforcement agency.
Crime Scene/Forensic Science Technology –
Coming Fall 2021
Students can prepare for careers with a specialty in
crime scene/forensic science technology. Potential
employment includes: crime scene technician,
fingerprint examiner and classification specialist, and
crime scene unit supervisor.
Criminal Justice Technology
An education in criminal justice technology is a
stepping stone for certified law enforcement,
correctional officers, and criminal justice professionals.
Fire Academy (Fire Fighter I/II)
Firefighters work to protect the public by controlling
and putting out fires, and responding to other
emergencies. Employment as a firefighter can be
physically demanding, yet extremely rewarding.
Fire Science Technology
This degree provides firefighters and industry
professionals with a strong understanding of the
complexities of managing a fire department, fire
prevention and investigation, tactics and strategy,
leadership, and fire apparatus and equipment.
Law Enforcement Academy
Law enforcement officers have enormous responsibility
in upholding the law, protecting citizens and
maintaining order in the communities they serve.
Students receive comprehensive training to prepare for
certification as a law enforcement officer.
Crossover Law Enforcement
The Criminal Justice Standards and Commission
established basic recruit crossover training programs
that provide movement of Florida officers between
justice disciplines. After completing the law
enforcement crossover program, officers are able
to shift to different areas of criminal justice disciplines
including corrections, patrol or qualify for dual
certification.
Law Enforcement Auxiliary
Auxiliary law enforcement support full-time officers
and help prevent, detect and investigate crime,
apprehend criminals, direct traffic and potentially
assist in the prosecution process. Completion of
a basic training program increases opportunities
for positions with public safety agencies as
certified law enforcement personnel.
Paralegal Studies
Paralegals perform many duties once handled by
attorneys. Legal assistants research laws, investigate
facts, conduct interviews and help prepare for
closings, hearings, trials and corporate meetings.
This program provides lecture and hands-on
experiences, including a mock trial.
