CEO'S MESSAGE
Sunrise or Sunset
For my very first “Uplift With Cliff ,” a
weekly Facebook Live that allows
me the honor of launching your
Mondays with a positive message,
I intentionally placed a photo of a lowhanging
sun surrounded by pink and
orange clouds the TV screen behind me.
But wait, was it a sunrise or a sunset? Could
go either way.
It’s a sunrise. I know, because I took the
photo myself. The image is a metaphor for
an outlook on life. You can see a sunset,
or you can see a sunrise. You can choose. I
intend to convince you to choose the latter.
BE POSITIVE
Look at your demeanor, hold yourself
up, speak life, and put a smile on your
face. Stop looking like you've been dipped
in hot sauce and swallowed a cup
of vinegar. Start looking like things
are going well for you and tell your
contacts, friends, and family that you
can't wait to see them again once
this quarantine is over.
FRAME IT FORWARD
Instead of expressing yourself in
terms of what you cannot do, reframe
it in terms of what you can do. What
you've got say (to yourself or to
others) is I can, I am, I will, I choose,
etc. These are sunrise sayings that will
change your outlook and lift your business.
AVOID THE ABSOLUTE
I want you to avoid the absolute while
getting ready to come out of this virus thing
and adopt the mindset that things are
going to be great for you. Work to believe
that life IS going to be a lot better, and
you’ll end up with a lot more sunrises than
sunsets.
STOP APOLOGIZING
Stop being sorry for your opinions.
You're entitled to them. It doesn’t mean
that you should intentionally ruff le feathers
and it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t
be prepared to support your views when
(politely, hopefully) questioned. It does
mean that you can say what you believe
and say it with a smile so that it comes
across with positive energy.
SHELVE THE SHOULDS
The word “should” sounds harmless
enough, but it has a sad connotation of
what might not happen. Instead, make
things start to happen in your favor
by changing “I should” into “I could”
statements.
MAKE A COMMITMENT
Don’t talk about what you ought to
do; talk about what you’re going to do.
Commit to making things happen, such
as hitting a transaction or volume goal or
just sitting down to work each morning.
Shaping your future in the form of a
commitment eliminates negativity and
doubt in yourself.
LIMIT THE LABELS
The labels you stick on yourself create
a mental boundary and limit your ability
to do anything. Don’t label yourself as lazy
or as not a morning person. You can be a
morning person. You can be energetic. Talk
to yourself, of yourself, in the positive.
REPHRASE PROBLEMS AS
OPPORTUNITIES
Out of chaos, opportunity is born. Every
time a problem comes your way, it’s an
opportunity for you to shine. Be the person
who makes a situation better. You’ll find
that doing so opens up an entirely diff erent
system of avenues and opportunities that
you can take advantage of.
Yes, we're in a pandemic and yes, the
situation is dire. But it’s not hopeless,
especially if you look beyond the storm
and start seeing a way for you and
your business to thrive in 2020. ORRA
will be right behind you, from sunrise
to sunset.
