Share Your Love
The “Share Your Love” mailbox in
Phillips Memorial Park in Cameron is a
dream come true for local mom, daughter,
and friend Jennifer Tyner from Carthage.
Serving as an Aging Life Care Consultant
with Aging Outreach Services, Jennifer’s
heart is all about sharing the love! When
Phillips Memorial Park in Cameron
said, “YES!” to her proposal, Jennifer got
to work to make it happen.
Inspiration.
Your inspiration to create the “Share
Your Love” mailbox? Sunset Beach has a
very famous mailbox called “Kindred Spirit.”
Walking to “Kindred Spirit” has always been
a special time for me to share my most inner
feelings. Holden Beach also has mailboxes
similar to “Share Your Love” on the east and
west ends of the beach as well as in the public
park. Theirs is called “Holden Golden.”
Pursuit.
What steps did you take to bring this
dream from inspiration to reality? I reached
out to several local Parks and Recreations and
presented my idea. I also reached out to the
town of Cameron because my children and
I love to visit Phillips Memorial Park. They
were the first to respond and soon presented
the idea to their board of directors. After they
approved the plan, I met with two board
members at the park to discuss the look of
the mailbox, the name and the location. Once
the mailbox arrived, I met with Laura Younts
(board member) and her grandson who
helped dig the hole and ensure the mailbox
was safely in and level.
Place.
Joining the expansive landscape at
Phillips Memorial Park in Cameron, where
can locals find the mailbox? The mailbox is
located on the walking trail right beside one
of the benches. It isn’t far from the two bears
chainsaw art in the tree trunk.
Purpose.
What is your hope for the mailbox? My
hope is to allow an opportunity for everyone
to share their most inner feelings, thoughts,
ideas without judgment. A place where people
can vent, scream, journal, “get something
off their chest.” Write letters to heaven or to
someone with whom they no longer have
contact. Just a place to share.
Supplies.
What’s inside the mailbox? Originally, I
had stocked the mailbox with cute notebooks,
loose paper, envelopes and a variety of pens.
Unfortunately, those items were stolen from
the box. When I posted this unfortunate event
on FB, and a FB friend reached out to say he
would replace the items for me. He placed a
new notebook, envelopes and pens in the box.
Participation.
Do you hope that anyone, from all ages
and from all walks of life, will stop to enjoy
the mailbox? Very much so! I hope any and all
who pass the box will at least say their name
and where they are from.
Love.
What does sharing the love mean to you?
It simply means this mailbox is a place for you
to share your feelings without judgment.
Preservation.
Will you visit often to make sure that all
is well with the box? I hope to visit each week
MOORE LIVING con't. next column MOORE LIVING con't. next column
to ensure it is kept up and has the supplies it
needs. Vision.
In looking ahead, what is your vision
for the “Share Your Love” mailbox? Like
“Kindred Spirits” and “Holden Golden,” my
hope is that when the box is so full it cannot
hold any more, I can store what is there and
start over with an empty box.
Cheer.
Inspiring others to make their dreams
come true, how would you encourage them
onward? I hope that everyone with a dream
has the opportunity for it to come to fruition!
In my case, I needed to put action steps in
place to reach my goal, and when one place
either ignored my request or said no, then I
reached out to another until I could make it
come true! NEVER GIVE UP!
Invitation.
In wanting all locals to visit the “Share
Your Love” mailbox, how would you sum
up the welcome? Phillips Memorial Park is a
beautiful park to visit! My family, friends and
I fish, picnic, exercise, play at the playground,
swing and enjoy books from their library. Now
there is a place for you to sit and anonymously
write your inner most feelings. Come and
share your love! ☐
