Corn and Tobacco, staples of Moore County
agriculture, filled barns all over the county! Offering
a chance for locals to see examples of the historic
barns preserved, the Moore County Historical
Society maintains the Graham Corn Crib & the Page
Tobacco Barn on the Shaw House campus.
Storing the cured tobacco, the Page Tobacco Barn
represents a common barn of days past. Growing
more tobacco than any other state, NC is home to
countless tobacco barns. Constructed of pine, the
barns incorporated the resources of our community.
Also built of pine, the Graham Corn Crib features
a wooden shingle roof. A staple of the South, corn is
eaten fresh off the cob. Upon drying, corn is enjoyed
as cornmeal, hominy and grits. •110 Morganton
Road, corner of SW Broad St, Southern Pines. ☐
Sachet Sensation
An old timey craft, sachets can be used for
homemade potpourri, for storing marbles,
buttons, legos, ribbons, etc.
Sachets are so small that any scrap of fabric
will work fine. Select materials such as natural
fibers, tulle, lace, wedding netting to allow
scents to release.
Gather supplies:
• Scrap of fabric • Scissors • Hot glue gun or
fabric glue • Potpourri • Treasures
Fill your sweet sachet with your favorite
tiny treasures. Contents may include herbs
of lavender rosemary, and mint. Buttons,
marbles, anything!
Glue the hems of your fabric. Join 3 of the 4
sides. You can also hand-stitch the sides for a
prettier finish to form a small bag.
Fill the middle of the fabric sample with
your filling of choice.
Glue / stitch the last side of the satchel shut.
For the final touches, decorate your
sachet with ribbons, buttons, lace, beads,
etc. Just as before, you can either sew or
glue on the ribbon, sequins, etc. Make it
your very own! ☐
