RFH Girls’ Relay Teams Finding Success
BY LES PIERCE
T
team sport. However, one component of the
sport, the relay events, requires competent
teamwork to achieve success. A fraction of a second
lost in a baton pass could lead to failure.
It appears that members of the Rumson-Fair
team have been working well together. They have
succeeded in picking up gold medals in every major
venue to date.
The postseason begins with the Monmouth
County Relay Championships. RFH claimed three
titles here, starting with the 4x100-meter relay.
Senior Marlee Dotts handled the lead-off role, and
younger sister Chloee served as the anchor. The
second and third legs were staffed by freshman Arabella
English and sophomore Megan Burns. They
won with a clocking of 49:59, which was the sixth
fastest time recorded statewide. Holmdel took silver
with a time of 50:33.
Later, that same quartet took the track for the

at 1:44.88 with the victory. Holmdel took silver in this race as well.
For the 4x400 relay, Coach Tim McLoone assembled a squad of
freshmen Ryan Malone (lead off), Chloee Dotts, Tyler
Argilagos and Burns. This event featured an exciting
fourth place and then overtook the three leaders to
gain the victory.
The 4x100-meter squad went on to capture
two more titles. One week later, they competed
in the Monmouth County Championships held at
Middletown Hight School North. Once again, Holmdel
was on the track and looking for revenge. The
Dawgs (49:81) edged Holmdel (49:94) by just 13
one-hundredths of a second in the most exciting
race of the day.
The next stop for the 4x100 foursome was at
Jackson Liberty High School for the NJSIAA Central
Jersey Group 2 Sectional Championship. Having
honed their skills over the past few weeks, they put
up their best time of the season, at 49:51 and took
home gold.
The 4x400 meter team composed of Chloee
Dotts, Malone, Argilagos and Burns went on to
victory at the Shore Conference Championships. The winning time of
4:07.32 was nearly a six-second improvement over their performance at
the Monmouth County Relay Championships.
