Cheng Ho masjid also known as the Muhammad Cheng Ho Masjid, is located in South
Sumatra, Indonesia and is name after the Chinese Muslim admiral, Muhammad Zheng He
(1377-1433) romanized into Cheng Ho. As a merchant, he came to the island for trade, but
also spread Islam throughout the region and areas he traveled through for trade.
The foundation of the masjid was laid on Oct, 15 2001 and was officially completed on
Oct 13, 2002. The design features a traditional Chinese-pagoda style painted in bright red,
yellow, and green. Inscriptions of the name of Allah can be seen on each pedestal-story of
the masjid.
