WINTER SPORTS RECAPS
In head coach Neal Goldman’s 34th
year, Jesuit basketball had one of
the Tigers lost in overtime to the
State Champion, Pembroke Pines
Charter. Jesuit’s playoff run included
three straight road wins, beginning
with a stunning upset at Clearwater
where the Tigers scored the game’s
Naples in the Region Final in which
Ryan Weir ’21 and Joe Pesansky ’21

Tigers were chosen the Team of the
Year and Goldman the Coach of the
Year by the Tampa Bay Basketball

the Tigers had a strong season,
winning the Andreychuk Division
the Division Finals in the Lightning
Cup playoffs. As one of the top two
“pure” teams – all team members
from the same school – in the
Lightning High School Hockey
Tier I State playoffs in Estero but
was eliminated in the round-robin

Under head coach
the Tigers had another outstanding
season, coming up just short of
repeating as State Champions.
Jesuit dropped the Class 5A State
Early in the season, the Tigers
defeated Bloomingdale, Tampa
Catholic, and Wiregrass Ranch to
win the Tampa Bay Champions
League. Following a loss to Palmetto
in the Tampa Bay Invitational on
Stanton. Among numerous Tigers
to receive postseason accolades

local, state, and national events,
capping things off with strong results
at the State Tournament. Tom Crook

Braden Basile ’22 Sergio
Desiante ’22 were runners-up, and
6th-place Joey Santana ’21 also made
the podium. The Tigers won the District
Tournament and made a valiant effort to
defend their State Duals Championship
eventual State Champion Lake Gibson,
Knockout Christmas Classic during
Christmas break, Basile and the Crooks
won their respective weight classes to
earn individual national rankings.
