St. Petersburg has no shortage
of amazing public art installations,
world-class museums
and innovative arts programs.
Here are a few of the newest,
hottest and coolest experiences to be
found in the city.
THE WORLD’S FIRST AIRLINE
MONUMENT
A full-size replica of the Benoist Airboat,
new Pier on the downtown water-
spring. Local artist Mark Aeling of MGA
the sculpture, which commemorates the
commercial airline in the world.
The 28-foot high sculpture not only
depicts the airboat, but also Benoist
pilot Tony Jannus and the historic
Petersburg Mayor Abe Pheil. Weighing
in at 16,000 pounds of steel and bronze,
the sculpture is accurate to the original
design, though much heavier, of course,
sculpture really soars at night, when it is
illuminated in all its glory at the Benoist
Centennial Plaza near the actual location
of the original hangar, now an Aviation
MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS
TRANSFORMED
debuted 12,000-square-feet of renovated
galleries last October, coinciding
with its 55th anniversary. Over 100
works of art that had been in storage, as
well as several outstanding recent acquisitions
and loans, are now part of the
renovated galleries.

The renovated galleries house
exhibits that span some 5,000 years of
civilization, from ancient Greek, Roman
and Pre-Columbian art to present day.
