Welcome
As the world reopens, it is exciting to see how far
ahead we are in St Pete.
To be very clear, the pandemic affected all
of our lives in the ‘Burg. We lost good people
to the virus. Businesses were closed. Those very special
moments in our lives were cancelled, changed or rescheduled.
It hurt us all just as it did throughout our world.
But the stars somehow aligned for us – we had a great
mix of government leaders at all levels working it from
all sides: state, county and city. Their balance of policy
Our fortune was also due to this naturally beautiful
paradise we live in. With the world record for consecutive
number of days of sunshine, everyone could be outside
with fresh air, no matter what the season.
So, yes we were “open” way sooner and longer than
most places. We stayed safe and kept our distance and
masks on as we went about the business of living in the
‘Burg.
It was just COVID that showed us how strong we were.
For me, it was our community’s response and behaviors
creating a safe environment for those citizens seeking
justice and equity. I’m proud of the Courageous
Conversations™ we are having in our city to ensure we
become the inclusive community we all envision.
So while this ‘Burg Life edition will help your brain process
your move by showing you all the great new places to
live, the cool jobs and businesses, and all the amazing new
things to do or see, it’s my hope you’ll start to feel the beat
of our hearts.
It’s that beat, when together as one– that can create
magical experiences or places to be. If it feels different
here, it’s simply because it is.
And that’s the Burg Life.
