Central in The
Edge District
THE EDGE DISTRICT
Starting at Central Avenue and Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, St.
Petersburg’s EDGE District features an
eclectic assortment of historic buildings
that have been repurposed into restaurants,
galleries and breweries. The area’s
growth is sparking investment in new
apartment buildings, boutique hotels
and more, along with an abundance of
public art, including both sculptures and
street murals.
“I’ve seen the Edge District transform
from an empty, rundown neighborhood
to the exciting and energetic neighbor-

taurants, bars and boutiques," Zucker
said. "That being said, I constantly meet
people who are not aware of the neighborhood.
They believe downtown St.
Pete stops at the 600 block of Central
Avenue. If they just keep walking west,

District."
The renewal of the district, overseen
by the EDGE Business District
Association, is a testament to a decade
of careful planning to transform the
neighborhood into a desirable and walkable
place to live, work and play. The
area is still growing, with new mixed-use
retail and residential developments in
the planning stages.
GRAND CENTRAL
Next door to the EDGE District is Grand
Central, which begins at Central Avenue
and 16th Street and extends to 31st
Street. Within this neighborhood, there
are more than 350 locally owned and
CHANGING LANDSCAPES
Over the past decade, St. Petersburg’s Downtown core

and commercial development, museums, art galleries
and locally owned restaurants have blossomed. Now,
that unprecedented growth is moving out in all directions to create
new economic development opportunities in districts just outside the
boundary of downtown.
