Editor’s Note
As we enter another holiday season, I am eager to see how this year
ends, hopefully with as many blessings as it began with. 2021 brought
a lot of great times and memories, the biggest of them was taking my
first trip to Europe, and it did not disappoint. Sometimes we work
ourselves up to something or for something and then it’s not at all what
we hoped it would be, but that was not the case with Europe, not for
me anyways. The food, the people, the culture, it was all and more than I had imagined. I visited
two out of my top three countries there: Spain and France. In Spain, the food was even better than
I could have imagined and in France the people (minus one encounter) were all far friendlier than
you hear. While I learned a lot about the European culture during my eleven days there, the thing I
took away the most was slow down. This wasn’t that type of relaxation you experience during every
vacation just because you stopped checking your emails and get some quiet poolside time, no, this
was something you must be there to understand and to feel depth of the slow down and simplicity
in the atmosphere. It is something I am trying to replicate in my personal life here, though I find it
challenging given the transitions I have been going through. But that is one of the great things I love
about the holiday season, for me it is actually the slow down part of my year because a few years
ago I decided to make it so. I choose to focus more on the presence and not presents. I refuse to go
crazy for toys or gifts for my daughter and instead just enjoy the time we have together. After an
“off ” couple holiday seasons, no matter your traditions, I hope this season it is one of normalcy and
fun and memories that help remind you to focus on the now.
