The FHSAA Football State Tournament
began in 1963, and the State playoff
structure has changed many times through
the years – extra rounds added, many more
schools qualifying (from 8 to 16 to 32 in each
class, as the number of schools in Florida
has grown), etc. Every game considered a
State Playoff appearance by the FHSAA is
at right, and the terminology used today
has been applied. For example, the 1975
called the “District Playoffs” and lost its
