The Boston Red Sox and new Manager Alex Cora, JetBlue Airlines and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh led a relief trip to Puerto
Rico on January 30 to deliver nearly 10 tons of essential supplies, that included medical provisions and vaccines, water filtration
systems, first aid kits, flashlights, diapers and food to help the island nation that is still recovering from the effects of Hurricane
Maria last September.
Red Sox President and CEO Sam Kennedy was among the contingent of front office staffers who made the trek along with
players Christian Vázquez, Chris Sale, Rick Porcello, Rusney Castillo and Iván De Jesús, Jr. and new coach Ramón
Vázquez. The venture was suggested by Cora during his contract negotiation and was immediately embraced by the Red Sox
and JetBlue.
A $200,000 check, made possible by Red Sox fans, the Red Sox Foundation and members of the Red Sox ownership group, was
presented to help restore power to the city of Caguas, Cora’s hometown.
