2018 NON-ROSTER INVITEES
Every year, Major League teams invite to Spring Training players who are not on the 40-man roster. Some of these invitees are veteran players looking to make one
last surge before giving in to retirement. Others are prospects with no Major League experience looking to make a first impression on the big league coaching staff.
In 2017, six of the Red Sox’ 18 non-roster invitees ended up contributing to the Major League club during the regular season, including Rafael Devers, who became
Boston’s starting third baseman and hit two home runs in the American League Division Series.
Here are the non-roster invitees who will be looking to stand out for the Red Sox during Spring Training. (List as of February 8.)
