Patient and Family Services - Social Worker
Hello all,
I’m thrilled to be settling in as our neuro clinic
social worker. I was asked to write a piece
regarding oncology social workers, how social
work benefits our clinics’ patients and families,
and a little about myself.
Oncology social workers embrace patient-
and family-centered care. We are an integral
part of the interdisciplinary health care team, contributing to the
development and coordination of the overall treatment plan throughout
the continuum of care. We work in collaboration with the patient and
family and other health care disciplines to provide psychosocial services.
These may include clinical counseling, education, discharge planning,
case management and navigation, linking patients with a variety of
services necessary to meet the person’s multipl needs. These services
are designed to maximize the patient’s utilization of the health care
system, foster coping, mobilize community resources in order to
support optimal functioning, and empower the patient and family
to be active participants in health care decisions and management.
As your Neuro clinic Social Worker, I’m able to provide:
• brief counseling to patient and family
• support groups information for patient and
caregiver/family, caregiver support and education
• hospice education/information and facilitate
referral if indicated
• fertility information/resources
• link patients/families to potential internal and community
resources to address identified needs including financial
concerns, lodging, and transportation
• facilitate Advance Care Planning discussions and assist with
completion of Advance Directives (if patient so desires)
• home health care, infusion and durable
medical equipment referrals
• assist with health care navigation.
As for my background, I am a License Clinical Social Worker. I’m also
credentialed as an Advance Certified Hospice and Palliative Care
Social Worker. I am a USF graduate (GO BULLS) with a BA in
Gerontology and Master of Social Work. I have experience working
in the community with a local hospice agency and inpatient palliative
care consultation service in an acute care setting. I also worked within
academic healthcare at USF Memory Disorders Clinic and University
of Colorado outpatient Neurosciences Clinics, and within the VA
Healthcare system as a PACT (Patient Aligned Care Team) and
Oncology and Palliative Care Clinical Social Worker.
I’m thrilled to be back in Tampa. I have a wonderful husband,
two fantastic adult sons, and a golden retriever. On the weekends
you may find me at the beach, fishing, kayaking, going to the
movies, or spending time with family and friends.
I look forward to working with you as part of your Moffitt Neuro team.
Advanced Practice
Professionals
Kyle Desantis
Kyle comes to Moffitt from a private
orthopedic surgical spine practice in
Tampa where she was a physician assistant
for six years. She lives in Channelside with
her husband and golden retriever, Zona.
Kyle named him after “Arizona” because
she earned her undergraduate degree from Arizona State
University. Kyle loved the desert but relocated for graduate
school at Nova Southeastern University in southwest
Florida. She was born and raised in East Lansing, Michigan.
She enjoys traveling, running, playing volleyball, hiking,
eating and spending time with family.
Lacinda Denis, PA-C
Lacinda Denis recently joined Moffitt and
the Neuro Team. She was previously with
the Laser Spine Institute in Tampa, Florida.
Denis was born and raised in Florida, did her
undergraduate work at Florida Southern
College in Lakeland and received her PA from
the University of Florida in Gainesville. She has been a PA for
15 years and before that was a high school science teacher.
Besides enjoying camping and hiking, she loves spending time
with her five children and husband at the beach. We are very
fortunate to have Lacinda on the Neuro Team at Moffitt.
Ashleigh Schroering
Ashleigh is a 2012 physician assistant
graduate from Barry University with her
master’s degree in clinical medical science.
She has been at Moffitt Cancer Center for
eight months, and works in conjunction
with Dr. Nam Tran. She enjoys dancing
(of any type), wake surfing, horseback riding, traveling,
and loves her two Boston terriers, Izzy and Noelle.
Caitlin Oline, ARNP
Originally from Chicago, IL, Caitlin lived and
worked in several different cities before
making her current home in Tampa and at
Moffitt. After completing her Bachelor of
Science in Nursing at the University of Tampa
(Go Spartans!), she worked as an oncology,
chemotherapy-certified RN in Tampa for approximately two
years. Next, Caitlin had the amazing experience of working
as a travel oncology RN in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New
York City, and Miami. After completing her travel rotation in
the Miami area, Caitlin decided to stay in the city to further
her education. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing at
the University of Miami, fulfilling her long-time goal of being
a nurse practitioner.
All these experiences led Caitlin to Moffitt. She says Tampa is
the perfect place for her, as she loves being near the water,
running along Bayshore, kayaking, and paddle boarding.
Although she won’t be trading in her love for deep dish
pizza and the Chicago Cubs, Caitlin says there is something
special about Florida sun and palm trees. She is excited to
be part of the Moffitt team.
