Plan Ahead for 2018
by Michael Holden, CPA
In my 40 years as a CPA, I have just about seen
it all. Many times, taxpayers are uninformed
when tax laws change and are caught in a mess
they never intend. This is why it is important to
understand the impact of the new tax reform
legislation. Here are a few significant changes to
keep in mind as you plan ahead for 2018 taxes.
• The new standard deduction amount is
$12,000 for single filers (up from $6,350), and
$24,000 for married filing jointly (up from
$12,700). If you itemized in 2017, you might need
to evaluate if that is necessary under the new law.
• There are no personal exemptions. For
example, you cannot claim dependents.
• The child tax credit doubles from $1,000 to
$2,000 for each child 17 years and younger.
• Finally, re-evaluate your withholding under
the new tax law. You can use the IRS Withholding
Calculator available at IRS.gov to see if you need
to make any changes.
Although tax season might seem far away,
the best time to start planning for these changes
is now. Check out our website at mholdencpa.

Mini Implants
by Dr. Paul Gauthier, DDS
Mini Implants are becoming more and more
popular. They have some limitations, however,
when indicated, they can be very advantageous.
Some advantages are as follows:
• No need to wait 3-6 months.
• Cost effective.
• Minimally invasive procedure.
• Shorter healing time.
• Decreased post-operative discomfort.
• Most edentulous patients are candidates.
• In-office procedure.
• Immediate results.
Mini Implants can be used to stabilize dentures
and some partial dentures. On some patients,
they can be used for single crowns. Southern
Pines Dental offers a free consultation to see if
you might be a candidate.

A smile is a gift we can all give!
the noise and dust created as construction of
BARRON’s Boutique has been underway on the
second floor of the tile showroom. For me, with
the mess and every piece of sheetrock, lighting
fixture, and coat of paint the excitement builds
of seeing a dream come to reality. For months,
James and I have been traveling to carefully
select vendors for the boutique that will provide
the same quality of product and service that we
expect from our tile vendors. Quality selection
and service are important to us as we see
our clients as not just one-time visitors, but
longtime friends.
The boutique will feature quality home
furniture and décor as well as special gift items.
Beautifully upholstered furniture and a variety
soaps and lotions made in North Carolina; a
large selection of tables, rugs, artwork, lighting,
and accessories; candles, throws, bedding,
and more are arriving daily as we eagerly work
toward opening day. My big dream had become
just as exciting for James and the BARRON
team. Keep an eye open for the big count down
while driving by. Our shared dream is that the
community becomes equally as excited in
experiencing our new destination BARRON’s
Boutique in Seven Lakes. For more info, p. 3.
