WILSON
COMBINES HIS
WELL-KNOWN
MASTERY OF
INTRICATE
EMBROIDERY
ART WITH NEW
EXPERIMENTATION
IN FORM AND
CONCEPT.
Founder Stephen Wilson keeps busy with AGD , his family
(daughter Wren’s 2nd Birthday was in August!) and of
course, his personal fine art pieces. This July, attendees
of Art Market + Design fair in Bridgehampton, NY were
delighted with Wilson’s joyful Luxury Series works which
celebrated the levity and carefree spirit of summer.
Currently in the Studio, Wilson is playing with a new toy: the
Tajima SUMO machine with a built-in laser. One of the first
machines in the country, it has the largest available hoop
size, perfect for creating Wilson’s larger scale artworks. The
laser capabilities are decreasing the time needed to cut
intricate appliqué designs which Wilson uses to make his
icon works of art. These are created using small individual
quilt block squares dimensionally mounted on wooden
blocks. Before the laser, every single small quilt block
square had to be cut out by hand. The laser has eliminated
this entire step.
Wilson has gained growing popularity for his line of luxury
box art pieces. These pieces showcase multi-materials
and mastery quilting with limited high end packaging.
The laser simplifies the entire fabricating process. By
adding the precision of a laser and the steadiness of the
embroidery hoop, Wilson can now push the envelope of
his creative limits.
