Hopefully everyone is getting settled in for winter. I know I certainly am, and
more importantly, I’m ready for this hurricane season to come to an end. Two
scares in one year is more than enough for me.
Another Pirate’s Fest has come and gone. Now all we need is for this
weather to cool off a bit. This year’s event went very smoothly for us. As much
as I wish there was some big story I could tell you, fortunately nothing that
outrageous happened this year.
Instead I’ll take this month’s edition to tell you about our new officers. We
have two new guys that I hope everyone has had the chance to meet, Ofc.
Jones and Ofc. Marshall. Ofc. Jones came to us a few months ago straight out
of the academy. Prior to that he was a student at Savannah State. Ofc. Marshall
finished the academy within the past few months. He had been employed with
us for several years as a jailer before attending the police academy. While
working as a jailer, Ofc. Marshall was a full-time student at Savannah State
where he earned his bachelor’s degree. So far both are doing an outstanding
job and are fitting in great at both the department and in the community. If you
get the opportunity to talk to them and introduce yourselves, I’m sure they both
would appreciate it.
With the weather cooling off and the tourists popping up less frequently, you
can expect to see our officers spending more time patrolling in the
neighborhoods. Our focus this time of year turns to catching burglars and
thieves who try to take advantage of the island during the winter. As always,
lock your car doors and leave your porch lights on. Don’t hesitate to report
activity that seems suspicious, and please chat with our officers when you see
them out and about. The better they’re able to know the people in the
community, the better they’ll be able to help out.
Have a great Thanksgiving everyone.
