I’ll start out by saying that this was one of the craziest books that I’ve
ever read. The book cover says “she can’t remember what happened, she
doesn’t know who she is, but she has evidence that she has a daughter that
needs saving.” That’s the only clues given to what this book is about, which
starts a roller coaster ride of a story that sucks you in from the first few
sentences. I’ll do my best to explain without giving anything away.
A young woman, who decides her name is June, survives a plane crash
in a terrible storm. She wakes up on an uncharted island with absolutely
no memory of anything. She starts having sketchy flashbacks that makes
her feel that she had a daughter with her on the plane, but she can’t even
remember her name.
She gets stuck in a hospital where she seems to be held prisoner. She’s
taken care of by some pretty shady characters, some of which I really
hated. Well actually, I hated all of them, just some more than others. She
begins to hear babies crying and knows that she has to escape to find her
daughter. Where exactly is she and will she find her daughter before it’s
too late?
Then there’s Floyd. He’s an FBI agent sitting in a hospital next to his
comatose wife. He’s head of the search and rescue team for the wrecked
airplane that June was on. They find all the bodies from the plane except
one. The Last Girl. He insists that the divers not come home without finding
her, even though the storm is still raging.
Talk about a story that keeps you guessing! There are so many twists
and turns that you have no idea what will happen next. You don’t know
what’s real and what is fantasy. Everytime you think you have it figured out,
the author throws a monkey wrench into your theory. This book wasn’t an
easy one to figure out and it keeps you guessing right up to the end.
After reading this book I decided to google Nick Twist, the author. I
wanted to find out what kind of mind could come up with this crazy story.
Turns out Nick Twist is a pen name for Cameron Jace, who has written
some equally crazy sounding fantasy series under the name of R.R. King,
but this is his first psychological thriller. He says, “I lie for a living.” I guess
that says it all. I give this book 3 roses only because it could get quite
confusing at times. But don’t let that stop you from reading it. You won’t be
able to put it down once you start!
Hope you’re looking forward to a very happy Thanksgiving and until next
time, read a book. If it’s a good read, pass it on!
