Walking trails and a park are also part of the 5.5
acres of MacBain Farm Park. They are open year-round,
but the crop picking is only during the season on
Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
With 17 years of giving back, the community response
has been strong, and all are grateful for what the
town has provided, Heymann explained.
“Without exception, everyone is enthusiastic about
the farm, once they have visited it,” she said.
Not only has this helped to give back to the community,
but it has also helped to bring people together. Not
only is it an educational farm, but MacBain Farm Park
also hosts the annual fall festival. The festival includes a
range of activities for people of all ages, including a bonfire
for s’mores, refreshments and things for the kids to
do. Each child also gets a pumpkin for the festival.
With all it gives to the people and the family-friendly
experience it offers, MacBain Farm Park is a unique piece
of Closter, and it has helped give back to so many
throughout the area.
“There are so many benefits,” Heymann said. “It’s a
place to teach kids how veggies grow, a place for seniors
to relax, go to the special wheelchair accessible place
and pick from the raised boxes. It’s a place for everyone
to enjoy nature, beautiful scenery, the many birds and
butterflies and the beautiful flowers. It has really fresh
veggies and herbs, just for the picking, excess veggies for
the food pantry and the seniors, and it’s a place to
teach farm skills to teens and others. The farm has
beautiful open space kept in perpetuity, and it is a link
to Closter's origins as a farm community.”
MacBain Farm Park is located at 203 Hickory Lane,
Closter, and is open all year.
