The Aberdeen Tunnel
Have you ever gone down under? Have you ever
walked the tunnel that goes under US Highway #1?
Yes! We have a tunnel right here in Moore County,
and it is awaiting your visit. As you walk within,
cars drive overhead! Providing safe passage for
locals to cross from one side of Highway #1 to the
other, the tunnel is used daily.
Mr. Dante Poole, Principal at Aberdeen
Elementary, says, “Many of our kids and their
families use the tunnel to walk to and from school
each day. Sometimes the tunnel gets littered with
graffiti, and our student leaders or the Boys and
Girls Club work together to repaint the tunnel each
year. The tunnel remains an important part of our
school community as it not only adds character to
the campus but it also provides a Safeway for kids
and families to travel to school and spend time
together.” ☐
You can find the tunnel at the
Aberdeen Elementary School entrance:
503 N Sandhills Blvd, Aberdeen.
Sandhurst Park
Off the beaten path of busy Indiana Avenue
and sheltered within a perimeter of oaks and
pines, Sandhurst Park is open for play! Upon
turning right off of Indiana and left into the
parking, guests are treated to a green space
that opens to the climbing wall arena. Over,
under, and around the walls, the adventure
picks up its pace!
Just across the way, the playground offering
swings, slides, monkey bars and the wobbly,
swinging steps of an obstacle course, neighbors
the pavilion. Ready to celebrate any and every
occasion, the pavilion offers an oversized grill,
picnic tables and rest rooms. Bring a picnic, a
party, and lots of friends as there is plenty of
room for all!
With wide open space to run and wooded
walking trails to hike, this really neat park is
fantastic! ☐
