Rumors By Emily Wilson
Sa way to help connect
multiple classes and
programs together for a crosscurricular
event, the Nixa High
School theatre department, fi ne arts
classes, and family and consumer science
classes at the school partnered
together to put on a banquet promoting
the theatre department’s production
of Rumors. This year, the collaboration
of the fi ne arts classes has been an
important focus for Nixa High School.
Allison Fleetwood, Nixa play director
and drama teacher, said the department
was looking for the next step to
enhance the experience students had
when putting together a theater production.
This event was also an opportunity
to highlight various classes and
program in the community, allowing
them more insight on what the Nixa
students are doing.
“By partnering with each other, the
fi ne arts classes could have some
cross audiences,” said Fleetwood. “The
people that would come to our shows
maybe wouldn’t go to an art show,
and we could display the art in the
lobby during the show and we could
have one of the kids from the piano
class playing the piano in the lobby.”
Through collaboration between the
theatre department and other classes,
Nixa is able to show its community
what the high school has to off er that
they hadn’t realized before.
This isn’t the fi rst time something
like this has been crafted to collaborate
the classes. Last fall, there was art
displayed and music playing, and it
was well-received by the public. The
banquet allows more classes to work
together and overcome the gap that
exists between the diff erent classes.
“We get really focused and have a
little tunnel vision on our goals and
our things that we’re doing for the year,”
said Fleetwood. “We don’t see what the
other groups are doing either, so it’s really
helped just build personal relationships
with the other fi ne arts teachers.”
