LESSONS & LETTERS
with Nikki White
My Haywood County story started in April 2010. I was having drinks with an old roommate
of mine and we were having deep conversations about life and wanting to try new
things. At some point in the evening, we picked up a set of darts and began tossing them
onto a giant map that was taped to my garage wall. One of my darts landed right smack
on Asheville, NC.
Two days later we were on our way for a three-day girl’s weekend to a place we had never
been to before. With excitement in our bones, we woke up at 3:00 am that Wednesday,
We drove into downtown Asheville around 11:00 AM, and almost immediately I could feel the energy in the area. I could
taste the air and it was delicious. The coolness of the town was beyond refreshing and I could already feel my mind begin
to spin. Two days into our stay, we were invited by some locals to attend the Earth Day Festival. We couldn’t say no. Good
food, drinks, people, and music that made my soul move marked my experience that weekend. I could feel myself begin the
creation process.
That following Monday, I began interviewing schools for my daughter, then 5 years old. We headed home on Tuesday and
54 days later, we moved to Waynesville, NC with just the clothes we owned and a few household items. In tow, my beautiful
to live secured.
allowed myself and my daughter to attend the camp and stay for free. It was a challenge to say the least and a memory that
will not be forgotten. Either way, God provided for us upon arrival.
somewhat controversial group, it provided a platform for me to engage in this community on levels I could never imagine.
I left working for corporate America in February of 2017 and started my own marketing company, Moxxie Marketing, that
same month.
I wouldn’t be here without the support and love of the locals in this incredible community. Haywood County has set a bar in
my life and continues to motivate me to reach higher and do better for this area. Here’s to all of you!
