Moxxie: What are your feelings about being a father and
business owner in Haywood County?
Dr. Mike: What I felt growing up here, is this is a community
that looks out for itself. Everybody looks out for
each other. Even being on Main Street, we look at each
other, we smile, we greet each other. And I hope that we
maintain that, because I think that’s why kid’s can still be
in the streets today.
Moxxie: Do you think your kids are growing up in a similar
Haywood County as you did?
Dr. Mike: Haywood County is still a great place and a
tight-knit community. We continue to look after each other
and I think it’s important that we own that.
Moxxie: What was it in your life that ignited your passion
for chiropractic?
Dr. Mike: I was actually a snowboarder in Colorado for
while. One day I took a fall on the snowboard and developed
a kink in my back. I didn’t do anything about it
for several months until I wasn’t able to perform normal
activities. I had never been to a chiropractor and no one
had ever recommended a chiropractor. I really didn’t know
much about it and hadn’t heard anything about it, but I
adjustment, not only was my kink better, but I realized
that I didn’t have to use my nasal inhaler anymore.
Moxxie: Had you been taking a nasal inhaler for a while?
Dr. Mike: Oh yeah, I had been using nasal inhalers for
a long time and used them all the time for allergies and
nasal problems. I was seeing specialists for years and they
directed to take an experimental drug at 17 by a specialist.
It was a purple chemical juice type consistency. It’s crazy
to think about because they didn’t know what was wrong
they said just try this and see what happens.
Moxxie: How did that make you feel?
Dr. Mike: Well, innately, within myself, I just knew there
was something not right about this.
Moxxie: So here you are after a fall on a snowboard, with
a kink in your back that you don’t tend to for months, and
you have an extensive history of being a medical guinea
and not only is your back pain better, but your nasal
issues cleared up, your head congestion is gone, you’re
back doing your normal activities... this experience clearly
made a permanent footprint in your life.
Dr. Mike: It’s funny because up until that point, I had
acquired this belief that if I had a pain or a symptom of
some sort, I needed to take a pill or a potion or rub some
lotion on my body. I need to go to the doctor. (laughing) It
got to a point where I was taking so many pills that I became
depressed. So I started taking anti-depressants. And
I knew at that point that something had to change.
Moxxie: It sounds like there has been a lot of mind over
matter that has gotten you to this place.
Dr. Mike: Your belief system has such a huge impact.
It’s not just the physical aspect. The universe knows your
thoughts. Our thoughts are measurable. We all have brain
body works. And that’s how it works. I know it sounds a
Moxxie: This is awesome and I am totally on board with
everything you are saying, but I feel like we are tiptoeing
into a conversation about the powers of manifestation and
universal thought being what you put out into the world
via thought is what you receive right back in your life.
