What’s in a
Name?
By Robbin Brophy,
EA
When I started my business four
years ago, choosing the name for my
-
cult tasks to accomplish. Everyone
is talking about “branding” or “creating
a brand” for your business so
that clients/customers will recognize
who you are instantly by seeing your
name or logo. Most folks do not
view a tax accountant as someone
for clients to know that the business
is owned by me and that we consider
ourselves “consultants” versus simply
tax return preparers. I had worked
for someone else for 27 years prior
to starting my own practice so when
I would try to get a new client, they
would always ask me about the name
on my business card which happened
to be the name of my predecessor.
I settled on Brophy & Associates
Consulting, LLC because my last
name is Brophy, I have some wonderful
associates who work with me
in my practice and we offer consulting
services as well as tax preparation
services. Several years ago, I
read an article that explained what
a “consultant” was. A consultant is
someone who has worked in a particular
industry that has experience
and knowledge in that industry that
equips that person to offer consulting
advice in that particular line of work.
A consultant should not be confused
with an “expert” because no one can
claim to be an expert in all areas of
their career. We all have more to
learn and ways to improve upon our
products and services no matter how
long we have been working in a certain
industry. My annual membership
in the National Association for
Enrolled Agents (NAEA) requires
that I have 30 hours of continuing
education annually.
This requirement enables me to develop
necessary skills and knowledge
in the area of income tax preparation
to be able to offer sound consulting
advice to our clients.
We offer income tax preparation services
for individuals, small businesses,
partnerships, estates and trusts
Our consulting services are somewhat
built into our tax preparation
services because every tax return we
prepare is reviewed for accuracy as
well as to determine any potential
income tax savings ideas that would
turns to when making decisions about
purchasing business assets or the
tax impact of selling an investment.
With strategic planning we help our
clients make informed decisions.
