Behind the Tape…

Hey Everyone! It’s that time of month again. Fortunately,
the children are on their way back to school and things are
going to start winding down. I don’t know about everyone
else, but I personally am beyond ready for winter to get
here.
I’ve been thinking for the past several weeks of a good
story to tell you guys. Well fortunately I think I have one and
enough time has passed that I can finally tell it.
About two years ago we were working a normal day in the
middle of the week. When I started my shift that day, I was
told that later in the afternoon we would be assisting the
DEA with an assignment.
Well later in the afternoon we went and met with what I
assumed would be one or two DEA people. To my surprise, it
was an entire SWAT team the DEA had sent from Atlanta. We
found out they were a specialized SWAT team that was used
when there were hazardous materials present. While they
were briefing us, they told us that they were serving a
search warrant on a vacation rental that was being used to
press fentanyl into fake Xanax pills. They told us that they
didn’t expect anyone to be at the house, but just in case,
they told us what kind of car the people drive.
So, we went to this house on the south end and started
blocking and rerouting traffic while the SWAT team did its
thing. Sure enough, even with all the cop cars out there, who
came driving up but the vehicle they told us to be looking
for. Of course the people in that car were promptly arrested.
I tell that story to say this. With all the rental properties on
the island, we don’t always have the luxury of knowing
what’s normal for these houses. So as I’ve said before, and
will continue to say, if you see something suspicious, say
something. If one of the rental properties near your house
looks like it has something weird going on, let us know. We’ll
go check it out and make sure it’s just normal vacationer
nonsense.
