For high school students, the workforce
can seem intimidating. Thanks to
WorkKeys, an assessment written by
ACT to assess job readiness skills,
students can get more confidence in
their readiness for workplace success
and add to their resumes.
There are three assessments within the
WorkKeys’ ACT assessment: Applied
Math; Graphic Literacy; and Workplace
Documents. The tests are written to
assess actual workplace problems or
situations. If the students earn a three
on all three subtests, they earn one of
four levels of a National Career
Readiness Certificate.
The Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum
levels demonstrate that the student has
the necessary foundation skills for 35
percent, 65 percent, 90 percent, and 99
percent of the jobs in the WorkKeys
database, respectively.
Nixa students are proving that the
education they receive in our
community’s schools is providing
problem-solving, critical thinking,
reading, and other skills in addition to
learning to apply information from
workplace documents and
mathematical reasoning to solve
problems to prepare them for the
workplace after graduation.
THERE WAS
PLEASURE AT THE
COMPLETION, BUT
NO EXCITEMENT.
GOING PLATINUM
This year, three students achieved the
Platinum-level certificate, making this
the first time a Nixa student has won
this highly sought after achievement.
A total of 59 Nixa students earned a
National Career Readiness Certificate
this year by taking the WorkKeys
assessments: 23 Bronze recipients, 21
Silver recipients, and 12 Gold
recipients.
Platinum
certificate
winner Bailey
Huddleston says
he has used it on
several job
applications,
knowing that
this
achievement is
something that
will stand out to
employers.
