NIXA SCORES 100% ON BUS
INSPECTION FOR 22ND TIME
BY EMILY WILSON
At Nixa Public Schools, safety is a top priority. At
Alliance Bus Company, it’s the sole priority. Alliance is
the transportation company for Nixa Public Schools’
school buses, and, when it comes to safety, they keep
making history. For the 22nd time in a row, Alliance
has gotten a perfect score of 100% on their bus
inspections the first time through.
This isn’t an easy accomplishment. The buses get
inspected twice each year, and the inspections have
may items that go into them. Virtually every inch of
the buses get inspected, both inside and out.
“Basically, you get two grades,” said Donna Collins of
Alliance Bus Company. “The bus comes in, it gets
pulled in, and it’s inspected by the state. If they find a
defect, you have to fix it. If you don’t get it fixed, the
bus is out of service until you do get it fixed. Then,
they have to come re-inspect it. So you might get 100
percent for the day, but not necessarily for the first
time through.”
For Alliance’s last 22 inspections, their first grade has
been their grade for the day. Alliance operates 45
buses for the school district. “When we got to 15 years
in a row, we broke the record,” Collins said.
“I believe the statewide average inspection score is
around 87 percent for the first time through,” said
Lloyd Collins, the shop’s foreman.
“Our buses come in between every 25 and 30 days and
our drivers check them twice per day before their
routes,” said Collins. “We do our inspections exactly the
same way that the state does, to the letter, because we
know exactly how they want them done.”
