Plant to Preserve Biodiversity
Scientists estimate that our current loss of species is somewhere between 1000-10,000
times higher than the natural rate of extinction. A conservative estimate is that 200-2000
extinctions are occurring each year. There is an urgent need to conserve wild lands and restore
habitat—ecosystems that sustain our human population. It starts with what you plant.
Studies have demonstrated that even modest increases in native plant cover significantly
increase the number and species of insects and birds. This can be done on commercial
and residential properties, on roadsides and in public places. Native plants, some 3000
species in Florida, play a vital role in creating and sustaining our Real Florida lifestyle.
GO REAL FLORIDA-FRIENDLY: USE NATIVE PLANTS!
