Happy October Sports Teaser fans! Football is underway, the baseball playoffs are here and we’re all happy to have survived Hurricane Dorian. Once
again Tybee Island was spared for the most part. As we know, it could’ve been worse, a lot worse. Unfortunately there are still a few months left in the
season and let’s hope that things are very very quiet. With that out of the way, let’s get to some sports talk.
It’s been a wonderful season for the Atlanta Braves. As of this writing they are about 30 games over .500 and seem to be destined for the playoffs.
They might even catch the Dodgers for home-field advantage, but nonetheless it’s been a great year. Now it’s time to make some noise in the playoffs.
The Braves haven’t won a playoff series in about 15 years so they are beyond due. There will be some decisions that need to be made as far as the
playoff roster, but I’m sure they’re glad to have that problem. In the short series you can go with three good pitchers, let’s just hope they choose the
best three. Everything is magnified in the playoffs and the bullpen needs to keep pitching like they have the last few weeks. No walks, because walks
are rallies in the playoffs. Go Braves!
College and pro football have kicked off and boy aren’t we glad. In college, the top 4 to 6 teams seem to be consistent at this point. I think you
need to add LSU and Ohio State into the mix with Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Oklahoma. It’s certainly been a weak start with the SEC versus nonconference
opponents, but it’s early and let’s see how it plays out. Georgia is loaded at running back and it looks like some of the young receivers are
coming around, so I still see a Georgia-Alabama SEC championship game on the horizon.
The NFL has kicked off as well and that makes a lot of folks happy too. Way too early to get a good read on anything as of this writing, but our local
teams didn’t have a great start in week one. Hopefully by the time you read this the Falcons and Jaguars will have notched a few wins. Losing Nick
Foles in the first quarter of the first game for 6 to 8 weeks won’t make things easy in Jacksonville. Julio Jones signed a monster contract with the
Falcons and hopefully they can get things going offensively.
Just a quick note on golf. Rory McIlroy turned it on at East Lake in the final round and won the Tour Championship in a duel with Brooks Koepka. Not
sure I like the new format but it was pretty good golf nonetheless. Although the new PGA season has started, wake me up when they get to Hawaii.
And of course, The Masters in April can’t come soon enough.
Well, that’s a wrap for this month’s Sports Teaser. As always, if you have any suggestions or other topics that you would like to see discussed (or
rejected), shoot me an email at gwhrealtor@gmail.com. Enjoy some Tybee time as the temperatures cool off a little, but there’s still a lot of good beach
days left. See ya in November!
