“People say miracles don’t happen. I witness it every day,” says Linda Morgan,
Statewide Director of Child Residential Services and Western Area Regional Director of Family Services for Baptist
Children’s Homes. Linda, a Haywood County native, has been dedicated to sharing hope and changing the lives of
area children in crisis since 1973. While Linda was attending Haywood Community College, the director of Broyhill
Children’s Home, a Baptist Children’s Home Facility located on 91 acres in Clyde, came to campus to speak about
the private agency. “I really enjoyed hearing about the Christian ministry, and that made the difference in coming
to work at Baptist Children’s Homes. I wanted to be a part of something special. He talked about the children, the
difference that Baptist Children’s Homes makes in the lives of children, and I knew that I could be a part of that and
really make a change in children’s lives,” says Linda. She accepted a position as the administrative secretary to the
director and her career in service has flourished ever since.
Haywood County currently has 106 kids in foster care, according to Haywood County Department of Social Services.
Broyhill works closely with DSS and serves more than 17 western area counties. “We work with DSS as they take
custody of children. When they bring them to us, we develop a plan that will focus on helping that child grow and
helping that child be successful with a family when they do move into foster care,” Linda says. The Broyhill campus
is home to five cottages set up like a typical home: a large living area, kitchen, dining room, and shared bedrooms.
“You take these children into care, and you provide them the basics, which is food, clothing and shelter. From the
nurturing atmosphere in the cottage that a husband and wife provide…you see security develop in those children’s
eyes,” says Linda.
