Are You Ready To Lead?
The Junior Leadership Manatee Board
has announced that the application
period for the 00-1 Junior Leadership
Manatee class is now open! Any high
school student with at least a .5 PA,
who will be a junior at a Manatee County
high school in the 00-1 school year,
is invited to apply for consideration.
Students who reside in Manatee County
but attend a high school in another county
are also eligible to apply.
Designed for high school juniors
interested in becoming future leaders
and supported by premier sponsor the
Early Learning Coalition of Manatee
County ELC, the Junior Leadership
Manatee program provides opportunities
for students to enhance their knowledge
of community resources, current issues,
and other factors inuencing the direction
of Manatee County’s future.
Participants gain special access to
local businesses, government, and
media to learn about potential career
and employment opportunities available
in Manatee through six themed days,
in which they travel via charter bus:
overnment & Law Enforcement Day,
Health & Human Needs Day, Media Day,
Agriculture & Land Use Day, Culture &
Recreation Day, and Business & Industry
Day. Tours over the past couple of years
have included the Manatee County Jail,
courthouse, ABC , Joy FM, hospitals,
Pirate City, Dakin Dairy, The Bishop
Museum of Science and Nature and Feld
Entertainment.
Students who graduate from the program
have the opportunity to be considered for
a student board member position which
they would serve during their senior year.
The tentative 00-1 Junior Leadership
Manatee program schedule based on
anticipated closed days for the School
District of Manatee County is as follows:
• Saturday, September 19, 2020
– Orientation (mandatory),
8 AM-Noon at Day Spring (Parrish)
• Monday, October 12, 2020 (Columbus Day)
– Government & Law Enforcement Day
• Monday, November 9, 2020 (Veterans Day)
– Health & Human Needs Day
• Monday, January 18, 2021
(Martin Luther King Jr. Day) – Media Day
• Monday, February 15, 2021
(Presidents’ Day)
– Agriculture & Land Use Day
• Friday, March 12, 2021 (Record Day)
– Culture & Recreation Day
• Friday, April 2, 2021 (Good Friday)
– Business & Industry Day
• Thursday, April 15, 2021
– Graduation Dinner, 6 to 9 PM
Applications are available by downloading
them from Junior Leadership Manatee’s
Website at juniorleadershipmanatee.org,
or one can be requested by contacting
chairjuniorleadershipmanatee.org.
The enrollment deadline is Friday, May
8, 00. While the tuition cost is 00
for those accepted into the program,
students who apply by Friday, April 1,
00, will receive 50 off. Scholarships
are available to those who qualify.
