The Venice Symphony
To commence the season of music, The Venice
Symphony has planned a series of four virtual concerts
beginning in November. The concerts have been
recorded with the safety of the musicians taken into consideration. The virtual concerts
feature 15 to 20 members of the orchestra, conducted by Music Director Troy Quinn. Each
concert is free for the public to enjoy. The Venice Symphony cherishes their subscribers and
patrons who have made the continuation of their entertainment possible.
The virtual concerts can be viewed from the comfort of your own couch by visiting
thevenicesymphony.org. Those interested in updates throughout the season can sign up for
the symphony’s newsletter on the website as well.
Punta Gorda Symphony
By mid-March, the Punta Gorda Symphony season ran
short as social distancing forced them to put their program planning on hold. Following the
shutdown, the symphony was fortunate to continue their education programs and
fundraising through online platforms. They transformed their Giving Challenge 2020 event
into a series of miniature concerts and interviews with Maestro Raffaele Ponti and the
musicians, all recorded over Zoom. The event was so successful in fact that the symphony
raised more than $14,000 in donations and an $11,945 match by the The Patterson
Foundation. They were also able to hold a Virtual Music Camp over the summer.
With community support, the Punta Gorda Symphony has re-imagined the 2020-21
season. For now, they encourage the public to refer to their website, PGSymphony.org, for
updates on programs, as they are subject to change. In the future, they hope to provide the
classical music that their audiences have longed for.
Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall
The City of Sarasota Preforming Arts Hall, the Van Wezel, has monitored
the safety of their organizations and has taken the city precautions into
consideration. Many events have been rescheduled for the season. As the Box
Offi ce reopened their doors for patrons, live events in the auditorium had been
postponed to the end of 2020. As their plans evolve, they will keep the public
updated through their website at vanwezel.org.
