The Garner House
Built in the late 1700s, the Garner House
is located on Morganton Rd in Southern
Pines where the Moore County Historical
Association maintains the home.
Originally from the Robbins area, the
Garner House was built on Mrs. Melvin
Garner’s land. History is unclear as to who
built the house—either by John Garner in the
1700s or by his son Lewis in the early 19th
Century. The home remains a fine example
of rural homes which feature wide heart pine
paneling, beautiful moldings, hand-forged
hinges, hand-planed pine board walls, a
corner staircase, exposed log construction
and a fireplace built of handmade bricks. ☐
Spice Delight!
For an unforgettable treat, you will love
this holiday craft when things get all warm
and snuggly and smelling as good as apple
pie. With this craft, you can have the “smell
good” all winter long!
Gather Supplies:
• Apple • Toothpicks • Whole cloves
• 8 inch square nylon net fabric per apple
• Cinnamon • Pretty ribbon
Let’s get started:
• Cut a 12 inch piece of ribbon.
• Using a toothpick, poke holes all over the
apple. Push one whole clove into each hole.
• Lay the apple over the nylon net fabric.
• Sprinkle cinnamon all over the apple
covered in cloves.
• Gather up the corners of the net around the
apple and tie with a ribbon. Tie a knot and
leave the ends long for hanging.
• Hang the apple in a dry, dark space to dry
for about 2 to 3 weeks. A closet works well.
• As the apple dries, it will start to smell
delicious!
The Spice Delight makes a perfect gift,
but I guarantee you that you will want to
make an extra one to keep as it smells so
good. Enjoy! ☐
