First Health Moore Regional Hospital
Recognize this building? Probably most of
our community children were born inside our
very own hospital located in Pinehurst.
On November 25, 1929, Moore Regional
Hospital opened its doors to serve Moore
and the surrounding counties. In 1929, the
hospital featured 33 beds, 5 bassinets for
the babies, and 27 employees. In 2021, some
ninety-two years later, the hospital now holds
402 beds with 287 doctors helping and more
than 2,700 employees and 900 volunteers
serving. In growing along with the care,
the name has grown to First Health Moore
Regional Hospital, of the First Health of the
Carolinas a private, not–for–profit network.☐
Giant Geodes!
If you love rocks as much as I do, then you’ll
love this craft! Geodes, the round rocks that
you hit with a hammer and hope that the
center is full of beautiful crystals, are treasures
indeed! However if you can’t make it to the
rock shop or to the great outdoors to find
one, then you can make your own beautiful
geodes in any shape and color you desire by
mixing a few ingredients and waiting at least
12 hours. Believe me, it's worth the wait!
Materials: Borax • Water • Large pot •
Measuring cup • Food coloring • Pipe cleaner •
Yarn • Wooden dow / pencil, etc
Instructions: Measure 6 cups of water in a
pan. Bring to a boil. • Pour 3 cups of Borax into
the boiling water and stir to dissolve.
• Add at least 20 drops of food coloring, stir.
• Form the pipe cleaner into desired shape.
(Ball, heart, stars, initials, etc) • Tie a piece
of string around the pipe cleaner and hang
from a dow rod into the liquid. • Dip in and
out several times to thoroughly coat the pipe
cleaner and remove air bubbles. • Once the
pipe cleaner is coated, make sure the pipe
cleaner is not touching the sides or bottom
of the pan while immersed completely in the
liquid. • Position the dow rod over the pan.
• Cover the pot; leave covered for 12 hours.
• Pull the pipe
cleaner out of the
water to discover
your GIANT geode.
P.S. We tripled the
recipe for bigger
geodes. Store in a
dry place as water
will disintegrate
your geodes. ☐
