The Sunna and Mustahabat
(Desirables) of Eid Al Fitr

1. To wake up early and pray Fajr salat on
time: Ibn Umar k would pray Fajr in
Masjid al-Nabawi and then would go
to place Eid prayer area thereafter (Musannaf
Ibn Abi Shayba; al-Só‘at al-allatõ
yatawajjahu ila al-‘õd).
2. To be in a state of cleanliness: Ibn Abbas
k narrates that the Prophet a said,
“Allah has made the day of Eid for the
believers. Whosoever comes for Jumu‘a
should bathe and if he has fragrance then
he should apply it, and you should also
do miswak” (Ibn Majah;
zõnat yauma al-Jumu‘ati).
3. To take a bathe that removes all impurities:
in one narration, Ali g said, “Ghusl
(bathing) on Eid al-‘Ad-ha and Eid al
Fitr has reward in it” (Musannaf
Ibn Abi Shayba; al-ýalót fõ ghusl yaum
al-‘õd).
4. To do miswak: Umar bin Abdul Aziz
said, “Using the miswak on Eid is Sunna
just like it is Sunna on Jumu‘a” (Musannaf
Ibn Abdul Razzaq, al-Istinón)
5. To wear clean and decent clothing: Hasan
bin Ali k said, “The Prophet a commanded
us to wear the best clothing we
on behalf of seven people and a camel on
behalf of seven people (Shu‘ab al-Iman).
6. If one has not paid the ,
then he should do it before Eid salat: Ibn
Umar k narrated that the Prophet a
