More than 1/3 of the questions that come to fatwa
departments now deal with Islamic finance. Mufti
‘Umayr Baig, an expert in this ever-changing field,
launched the section Principles and Applications of Islamic
Finance to empower our communities with the tools
to better grasp the complexities of Islamic finance. The
section expounds the principles that guide Islamic finance,
their evidence(s) from the Quran and Sunna, and practical
scenarios to understand how they play out in real life.
This issue also introduces the new Seerah section covered
by Maulana Dr. Mateen Khan which will concentrate on the
importance of love for the Prophet a in light of his Seerah.

Jibril e came to the gathering of senior Sahaba l in 7 A.H.,
twenty years after prophethood to teach them the basic
tenets of the deen. Why after twenty years? To underscore
the importance of getting back to our basics. No matter
how great our knowledge, there is no submission to Allah
or Islam without these pillars in our lives. Abdul Rahman
Irshad covers some aspects of the five pillars and reminds
us that fundamentals matter—the most.
