Iman Ahmed bin Hanbal says that
once he saw Almighty Allah in his
dream and asked, “What’s the best
way of all ways to get closest to
You?”
The reply was “O Ahmed, it’s My
kalam.”
I said, “O my Lord, is this only
when we understand what we read
or even when we don’t?”
Allah replied, “Whether you
understand it or not; it is the best
way to gain My closeness.”

Once Hazrat (in his student days) had a very quiet roommate,
a Sufi personality, who barely engaged in conversation. He
had a habit that he would pray Fajr with the wudu from ‘Isha.
Hazrat said, “By watching him, I was encouraged to do the
same but after few days of practice I started to get sick and
I joked with my roommate, “What is the condition of these
Sufis nowadays? It’s not anywhere in the Sunna to pray Fajr
with the wudu from ‘Isha.” There is nothing special about it
since the Sunna recommends renewing the wudu even if one
has it from before. There is nothing special about praying
many salat with one wudu. If it was something blessed and
rewarding, it would be a part of the routine of the blessed
Prophet a. Even if some saintly person did this, then that
was his spiritual state, and the spiritual state of a saint is not
proof for us. We are only followers of the Sunna. A saint’s
feelings, words, or state are not a rule of Shari‘a. The Shari‘a
is only the Prophet’s a words or actions.

The Effect Of Gazing At Non-Mahram
It’s a very bad habit that takes away the sweetness of worship.
It shocks me how quickly it effects (a person)... This
destructive disease leaves long term effects on our ibada.
Another thing I should mention is that after gazing at a
non-mahram your body produces a smelly odor. May Allah
protects us all. And if Allah blesses one with the ability to
protect themselves from this sin and if they have the habit
of reciting durood abundantly, their clothes do not stink of
body odors. I experienced this with my elders. Even after a
week, there was not even a slight smell of body odor on their
clothes.

Preference Of Rewards Over Gifts
Hazrat was always appreciative
toward a friend who would make
a sacrifice for him every ‘Eid al-
Adha and send the reward to
him (Shaykh al-hadith) and said,
“These are real gifts that will stay
with me in the next world. The
material gifts we consume and use
eventually go to the waste. The
gifts of this kind are everlasting.”

Every aspect of our actions and even the end of our deeds
should be accompanied by an acknowledgment of its
shortcomings and the fear of it being rejected. Every good
deed by nature should be done in the best manner possible
but in the end, it should be realized that Allah’s rights
could not be fulfilled as they ought to be. Moreover, there
should be fear and anxiety in the heart that because of the
shortcomings and corruption in our efforts, they may be
rejected and thrown on our faces on the Day of Judgment.
Thus, on account of this apprehension, fear and anxiety, we
should cry before Allah repeatedly seeking His forgiveness.

The first thing one needs to do in order to acquire love for
Allah is to free the heart from any other love…love usually
comes by four things:
1. Beauty and elegance
2. Perfection and excellence
3. Wealth and assets
4. Generosity
Allah the Most High integrates all these four characteristics
within Himself to a degree that cannot be found elsewhere.
